Following the confirmations from Ducati and Aprilia, everyone is still waiting for updates regarding Jorge Martín's future plans. Yamaha was next to announce that both of their current riders, Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins, will be leaving the team for the 2027 season.

Fabio Quartararo leaves Yamaha

After joining the team in 2019 to replace Valentino Rossi and securing a world championship title in 2021, Quartararo is set to leave the factory Yamaha squad after eight years. While the news could be seen coming from a mile away, it is still not easy to accept.

As the only Frenchman to win the title, the Quartararo-Yamaha partnership will be one to remember. His notable track record includes 12 race wins and 36 podiums. This was especially evident during the 2025 season and the beginning of the current one, where he clearly pushed the bike to its absolute limits, securing crucial front-row qualifications and top-five finishes.

Paulo Pavesio, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, commented on Quartararo in a Yamaha press release: “Beyond the results, it is this journey that defines our relationship, and in the end, Fabio will always remain one of the true legends of Yamaha MotoGP.”

Alex Rins follows suit

It has also been confirmed that Alex Rins will be leaving the team, creating a second vacancy at factory Yamaha.

Rins joined the team in 2024 to replace Franco Morbidelli. While an injury-led debut season and rocky machinery in 2025 and the current season kept him from securing top results, it does not take away from his overall performance in MotoGP.

Incoming riders

While official announcements are pending, reports from Matt Beer via The Race indicate that Ai Ogura and Jorge Martín will join the factory team.

As for the current riders, the Honda factory team is expected to confirm Quartararo for the line-up, while Rins is on the lookout for a new opportunity.

Stay tuned for more updates from the other teams, and don’t miss the upcoming action at the German Grand Prix on the 12th of July at 1:00 PM BST.
