Théo Pourchaire signs with Opel GSE for Formula E's 2027 Gen4 Era

The motorsport world is buzzing with a major career breakthrough as Théo Pourchaire has been officially confirmed as the first driver for the newly formed Opel GSE Formula E Team.
The French driver will make his official Formula E debut in the upcoming 2027 season, marking a massive milestone not only for his career but also for the iconic German manufacturer as it enters the all-electric world championship.
Pourchaire, the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Champion, has long been a key talent within the broader Stellantis Motorsport family. After establishing his prowess in junior single-seater categories, the Frenchman was the logical choice to spearhead Opel's brand-new single-seater campaign.
Having already served as a vital development driver, Pourchaire has spent months working closely behind the scenes, logging crucial hours in both simulators and private track tests to develop Opel's groundbreaking machine.
The Frenchman's introduction to the championship coincides with the debut of Formula E's highly anticipated GEN4 Era. Replacing the previous generation of cars, the new Opel GSE 27FE introduces cutting-edge technology that aligns with Pourchaire's aggressive driving style.
Expressing his excitement about the opportunity, the French driver noted that the step up to Formula E's GEN4 regulations is the ideal veichle choice for his single-seater return:
"It's the next step in my career and the biggest single-seater opportunity I've had so far. The new GEN4 generation is a perfect fit for my transition from Formula 2: More power, all-wheel drive and incredible acceleration; that's the kind of car I love."
Opel Motorsport Team Principal Jörg Schrott expressed immense confidence in securing the young Frenchman.
"We have been watching him for a long time and are impressed by his performance, maturity and fresh approach.
"Théo belongs to a generation of racing drivers who’s technical understanding, speed, adaptability and work ethic are perfectly suited to the new GEN4 era of electric motorsport,” Schrott expressed.
Highlighting Pourchaire's technical intelligence, adaptability and proven winning minds, he emphasised that the team's strategy focuses on blending youth with speed to immediately challenge the frontrunners.
As Opel prepares to take its place on the grid, all eyes will be on the young French star. With winter testing underway and the season opener approaching fast, Pourchaire is ready to translate his stellar junior-category pedigree into elite electric motorsport success.
