After much anticipation, Toyota finally premiered their new flagship models to the world: the GR GT and its race-based version, the GR GT3, on Friday, 5 December 2025.
The GR GT was developed under a one-team approach centred on Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Chairman Akio Toyoda. Professional drivers Tatsuya Kataoka, Hiroaki Ishiura, and Naoya Gamou, gentleman driver Daisuke Toyoda and in-house evaluation drivers worked closely with the engineers during the development.
The new models follow the tradition of the legendary Toyota 2000GT and the Lexus LFA. The development of the new cars follows Toyota's philosophy of transferring the art of car-making to the next generation.
The GR GT3 features the same three elements of a low centre of gravity, low weight with high rigidity, and the pursuit of aerodynamic performance found in the road car. The car meets the FIA's specification on GT3 specifications.
The car is powered by a twin-turbo 3,998 cc V8 engine, mounted at the front of the car with a rear-wheel drive (RWD).

Toyota envisioned the GR GT3 as a car that is chosen by people who want to win and is easy to drive for anyone, with its driver-first principle, tailored to professional and gentleman drivers alike.
At the same time, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) plans to establish a support system for customer teams that race the GR GT3 to help them with technical support and help them enjoy motorsports.
The GR GT3 has undergone strict testing and employed various methodologies learned from competing in motorsports. The car has been tested in simulators and has been deployed to various race tracks worldwide, including Fuji Speedway and the Nürburgring.
The cars that were shown today were still under development, which means various details can change as the weeks go by. The development of the GR GT3 will continue before its official debut around 2027.
