Max Verstappen, Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella crossed the line to win NLS 2 in dominant fashion earlier today, but they have been disqualified this evening, having used more tyres than permitted.
Dan Harper and Jordan Pepper in the No.99 ROWE BMW have inherited the victory.
During the race weekend, the team had used seven sets of new tyres, however, the regulations only permit the use of six sets of tyres. Therefore, the stewards were forced to disqualify the No.3 Winward Mercedes.
Team principal of Winward Christian Hohenadel said “The disqualification hurts. Unfortunately, a mistake was made within the team that forced race control to retroactively disqualify the winning car.
"For us, this was our first outing as a Mercedes-AMG Performance team on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. I would like to apologize to everyone who was rooting for us. We will now thoroughly analyze the day, meticulously prepare for the remaining races, and work toward the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring with full concentration.”
Verstappen, Gounon or Juncadella have yet to comment on the matter.
