Winners and Losers: MotoGP 2025 Portugal Grand Prix

Written by Isha Reshmi Mohan, Edited by Vyas Ponnuri

We’re nearing the end of the 2025 season, and Bezzecchi takes the win in Portugal after plenty of battles for position behind him. Here are the winners and losers from the Portuguese Grand Prix.

It was an easy win for Bezzecchi, who started from pole and quickly pulled ahead at the start. Àlex Márquez jumped from fifth to third early on and soon overtook Pedro Acosta, but he was nowhere near catching Bezzecchi for the majority of the race.

It was only in the final three laps that Márquez began to close the gap, but it wasn’t enough to challenge for the victory, as Bezzecchi crossed the line with a solid 2.3-second lead.

Additionally, with Pecco failing to finish the race, Bezzecchi has now secured his third-place spot in the championship standings behind Marc and Àlex Márquez.

We’ve seen plenty of progress from KTM, and they’ve done it again, earning a well-deserved spot on the list once again. Pedro Acosta secured a podium finish, while Brad Binder quietly but impressively climbed from 14th to finish fifth.

Winner: Àlex Márquez

Àlex Márquez is no stranger to these lists; he earns a spot this time after finishing second, despite starting fifth and battling worn-out tyres, as was the case in the final moments of the race.

It’s remarkable how the Spaniard managed to close in on Bezzecchi in the last three laps while also defending against Pedro Acosta, who also appeared to find a sudden burst of pace towards the end as he too was closing in on Márquez.

Loser: Franco Morbidelli

After a number of on-track incidents this season and being questioned about them earlier in the weekend, Morbidelli’s bad luck continued at the Portuguese Grand Prix, as he was forced to retire in Sector 2 of Lap 1 following contact with Pol Espargaró.

Loser: Francesco Bagnaia

Another unlucky moment for Bagnaia saw him record his fourth consecutive DNF, crashing out of the race on Lap 11 without any contact from other riders.

It was especially unfortunate, as he had started well and was fighting for a spot in the top five. With this crash, he also lost his third place in the World Championship standings.

Loser: Joan Mir

Mir has faced plenty of setbacks this season, and misfortune struck again as he was forced to enter the pits in the early stages due to bike issues, along with Enea Bastianini.

However, only Bastianini was able to rejoin the race on the following lap. There has been no communication about the nature of Mir’s issue during the race.

Do make sure to tune in to the final race of the season in Valencia on the 16th of November at 14:00pm BST!
