For Fernando Alonso, a promising race ended in bitter disappointment with yet another retirement. After a strong performance that had him in a points-scoring position, his race was cut short by a mechanical failure.

Alonso's post-race comments revealed the deep frustration of a lost opportunity. "Yeah, very frustrating because again, you know, we were into the seventh place, I think, to secure seventh place," he said.

He was poised to add another six points to his championship tally, only to see them vanish. The frustration was compounded by a similar event earlier in the season.

Alonso drew a direct parallel to a previous race where mechanical issues also cost him dearly. "So I remember Monaco retiring the car with an engine problem being P6. Today, suspension problem being P7," he recalled.

The recurring pattern of retirements from strong positions has clearly taken its toll. He lamented his lack of luck this year, stating, "the luck definitely, you know, is not with us this year and we are losing a lot of points."

Despite the end result, the race had been a positive one for the Spanish driver. He had shown impressive skill and determination on track. "Well executed race, we overtook Antonelli at the start, we overtook Bortoleto at the pitstop and everything was looking good," he said.

This positive performance made the eventual retirement all the more difficult to stomach.

When asked about the emotional weight of putting it all on the line only to come away with nothing, Alonso's final comment was perhaps the most telling. He admitted that the constant setbacks were getting to him, "It is frustrating but yeah, I'm getting used to it unfortunately".

A disheartening quote from the two time champion, capturing the essence of his challenging season and the resilience required to keep going despite the disappointment.
