Lewis Hamilton was disappointed with Ferrari's performance this weekend following his eighth-place finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
It has been an unusual season for the seven-time World Champion. Since making the jump from Mercedes to Ferrari this year, Hamilton has not achieved a single podium finish.
Weekend after weekend, Hamilton appears dejected post-race. This weekend was no different despite scoring points from starting back in 12th.
After the race, Hamilton said: "Ultimately a disappointing result. As I mentioned yesterday, I felt so optimistic through practice after P2. Honestly I felt so good in the car and I think ultimately it went in the wrong direction with the car.
“Our ultimate pace in the race was just not on par with the guys up ahead of us but qualifying is clearly so important, I mean look at where the Williams was, they did a great job.
“I’m happy I moved forward from 12th but I don’t really care less for that position."
Ferrari’s struggles in Baku reflect a wider pattern the team have been following this season: flashes of speed over one lap, but a lack of consistency on Sunday’s. Even with Charles Leclerc starting ahead of Hamilton, he didn't have the strongest race either as he ended up in ninth.
Ferrari have now been overtaken by Hamilton's former team, Mercedes, in the constructors' standings with a four-point gap. However, the Constructors' Championship race is still on due to McLaren's poor result in Baku today.
Hamilton remains sixth in the drivers' standings as he still looks for a breakout performance in red. His focus is now shifting to the next round in Singapore, a circuit where Ferrari will hope to bring more competitiveness to the pack.
