How Roman Bilinski has quietly emerged as one of F2's consistent drivers in 2026

“I think it’s something we deserve,” DAMS’ Roman Bilinski remarked.

The Polish driver had just scored his maiden Formula 2 podium, a fabled rostrum appearance around the streets of Monaco. This result kicked off a scoring spree, with Bilinski going on to score points in six of the next seven races of the 2026 F2 season.

More so, he is on a five-race scoring streak, scoring points all the way through the European leg of Barcelona, Austria and Silverstone, only bettered by the championship-leading pair of Nikola Tsolov and Gabriele Minì across this leg of the season.

Moreover, the uptick in form has come at venues where Bilinski has raced at several times, including during his Formula 3 campaign in 2025, and in his Formula Regional days back in 2024.

“It definitely helps,” Bilinski said, responding to DIVEBOMB when asked about his consistent run of form. “I still think the start of the season was very strong, but a lot of things didn't exactly go our way.

The opening rounds of his season hinted at momentum, although Bilinski hasn’t been able to replicate similar form all season. A technical issue hampered him all through the Miami weekend, as he qualified on the back row of the grid, and later failed to start the Feature Race altogether.

However, Bilinski’s one-lap pace has shone at Silverstone, as he took his best starting position of the season in fourth. In what turned out to be one of his best weekends all season, the DAMS man scored points in both races, finishing seventh and eighth in the pair of races.

“I think it's now just piecing it all together and doing this more consistently throughout the season,” Bilinski said, reflecting on his own pace.

The Polish racer’s junior career has followed a similar trend, with a great result early on followed by a difficult run of form, with a stronger latter half of the season. Bilinski’s Formula 3 campaign brought a podium in the season opener, before a mixed run of form followed. He then ended the season by inheriting the sprint win in the Monza finale, and later finishing seventh in the Feature Race.

Even during his truncated 2024 FRECA campaign that saw him sit out four rounds due to a road accident, Bilinski’s improved form came through on his return to the cockpit in Imola.

But there is an even greater challenge and pressure that every rookie must surpass in Formula 2. The transition is sped up further in the championship, and the challenge only grows as several elements are thrown into the mix: Larger cars, the all-important mandatory pit stop, and getting it right in an utterly competitive qualifying session.

While Bilinski competed across three seasons of FRECA and only one in F3, he knows the process of finding his feet is much quicker in F2.

“Learning these things (pit stops, the F2 car, and more) and getting on top of them as soon as possible in the season is important,” Bilinski reflected, looking back at his season.

However, what will certainly bode well for Bilinski is a strong atmosphere within the DAMS setup. “There's a good vibe in the team,” he responded, on the relationship he shares with teammate Dino Beganovic.

The Swedish driver started the season on an excellent note, showcasing the pace to take pole in Melbourne, before scoring podiums in Miami and Monaco. “Having someone like that to learn from is extremely important,” Bilinski acknowledged, speaking strongly of his teammate.

“Hearing the discussions and feedback and everything like that for myself is very important to learn that. So, I'm very thankful for it,” he continued.

Bilinski will certainly be looking to build on his recent run of form as he comes into the famed Spa-Francorchamps venue, a scene of success during his junior racing days. The Polish driver finished second at the Belgian circuit during his FRECA days back in 2024, apart from finishing in the top four during his GB3 campaign in 2021.

It’s no surprise for any driver to admire Spa’s iconic corners and the famously long trip through the Ardennes. Bilinski, who has excelled at several European venues in 2026, looks forward to tackling Spa’s challenges in his quest to score more points.

“It's a bit more old school and less of the track limits, white lines, and you get punished if you go off. So this is quite good, and it has its own challenges with elevation change and the weather as well,” he replied, looking ahead to the weekend in store.

Heading into the second half of the season, Bilinski knows he is slowly turning around his campaign. Despite difficult qualifying sessions, being stronger in race trim has helped him pull off several lower points scores to keep ticking over all season.

The DAMS man knows he needs to turn around his qualifying pace to mount a stronger challenge, holding his emotions very level-headed is something that will keep him in good stead for the second half of the season.

While Bilinski has been quietly collecting points behind the scenes, there remains a strong chance that his name may not be an anonymity on F2's points-scoring sheets anymore, and bigger results could be around the corner for the consistent Polish racer in the second half of the season.
