Arvid Lindblad has had a very impressive career so far, with his rapid success through the junior ranks. Though he finds himself as the only rookie on the 2026 F1 grid, in just three rounds, he is already exceeding expectations. Could he be the next big name in this sport?

Last year we had five rookies on the Formula One grid, however this season we only have one 18-year-old British driver Arvid Lindblad, racing for Racing Bulls.
From dominating karting, to climbing through the Formula 4, 3 and 2 ranks supported by Red Bull, Lindblad has rapidly built a reputation not just for his raw speed but for intelligence behind the wheel.
In the opening three races of his F1 rookie season, he hasn't let the pressure of being the only rookie on the F1 grid get to him. While most rookies take time to settle in and understand the ropes of this league, straight away, Lindblad showed his confidence behind the wheel of an F1 car.
This has been shown through his wheel-to-wheel battles, challenging some of the big names on the grid like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen during the Australian Grand Prix, as well as his clean overtakes on track and not making any kind of costly mistakes for the team during the opening races.

In 2025, more than a quarter of the F1 grid were rookie drivers, these rookies including Kimi Antonelli, Isack Hadjar, Oliver Bearman, Gabriel Bortoleto, Jack Doohan and Liam Lawson.
It was a chaotic start for the 2025 rookies, during their opening race in Australia, only two of them completed their debut race, Antonelli finishing in fourth and Bearman finishing in fourteenth.
Lindblad exceeded the expectations set, after the 2025 rookie's debut race performance. During his first race weekend he reached Q3 and got his first points in F1 finishing eighth.
Not only did he achieve getting his first points that day, but Lindblad became the third youngest points-scorer and Britain's youngest point scorer in F1 history, leaving Australia with achievements some drivers wait months or years for.

He carried this strong momentum into the following races in China and Japan. Despite the challenges and demands from these tracks, Lindblad remained consistent, finishing in the top 15 and making another Q3 appearance in Japan, where he qualified 10th.
This consistency for a rookie in their opening races is incredible, and he has utilised his first few races effectively, already creating a strong impression within the sport.
His performance has definitely not gone unnoticed, even after early scepticism. Some critics questioned whether he was ready for F1, and even Lindblad himself acknowledged the challenges at the start of the season, admitting: “I’ve got a lot to learn, if I'm entirely ready, I don’t know.”

Yet his mindset continues to be one of his greatest strengths. Despite being a part of the Red Bull system which is known for its intensity and high expectations, as you're continuously in the spotlight.
Lindblad remains no stranger to this pressure, when reflecting on his position, he said: “I’m living my dream, so I don’t feel like there should be any pressure. In the end, I’m one of 22 drivers that gets to drive the fastest cars around the world, going to see crazy new places.”
In a sport where the pressures and standards are high, Lindblad has challenged the expectations of what a rookie can achieve in F1. If this opening chapter of his career is anything to go by, it's sure that Lindblad’s rookie season could be remembered as the beginning of something far greater.
