Top Qualifying 1 was the first of three Top Qualifying sessions. 50 cars took part to compete for one of 20 spots in Top Qualifying 2. Before the session started, five cars had already qualified based on their pace in previous Nürburgring Lansgtrecken-Serie (NLS) rounds: the No.1 Rowe Racing BMW, No.16 Scherer Sport PHX Audi, No.45 Realize Kondo with Rinaldi Ferrari, No.47 KCMG Mercedes and the No.84 Red Bull Team ABT Lamborghini.

Before reaching the Nordschleife, Michele Di Martino put his No.33 Kkrämer Racing Audi in the wall at the Veedol Chicane. More surprisingly, a few minutes later 3x winner of the race, Kelvin van der Linde spun at Brünnchen - considering he had already qualified before the session, the incident did not cost him.

The No.77 Schubert Motorsport BMW and the No.5 Black Falcon Porsche obviously didn't get the memo that the race is yet to start, as they made contact in turn one when the BMW tried diving down the inside.

After the initial chaos at the start, the drivers calmed down and started setting solid lap times, competing for their spot in TQ2. Nicky Catsburg set the pace early, but the No.34 Walkenhorst Aston Martin of Mattia Drudi pipped Catsburg's Lamborgini right at the end.

The biggest fight was not for the fastest time though, as it is all about who made the top 20. Shockingly, Julien Andlauer failed to make the bench mark time with the No.17 Dunlop Porsche. Loek Hartog's No.55 Dinamic GT Porsche also failed to make the top 20, but the No.54 Dinamic GT car did, which Hartog is also driving. Another surprise, Marvin Kirchöfer failed to get the No.69 Doeer Motorsport McLaren through.
