MotoGP 2027 line-up update: Honda HRC Castrol

With the 2027 MotoGP grid beginning to take shape, Honda Racing Corporation have made one of the biggest moves of the rider market by confirming the signings of Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso for the factory project.

The announcements mark a major statement of intent from Honda as they look to rebuild their MotoGP programme ahead of the new 850cc regulations and return to championship contention.

Fabio Quartararo joins Honda

The biggest headline from Honda’s announcement is the arrival of 2021 MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo.

After joining Yamaha in 2019 and delivering the manufacturer’s first riders’ championship since Jorge Lorenzo in 2015, Quartararo will bring his experience and proven race-winning ability to Honda from the 2027 season.

The Frenchman’s time with Yamaha has been a mixed journey. After an incredible 2021 campaign that saw him claim his maiden MotoGP title, the manufacturer struggled to match the performance of its rivals during the following seasons.

Despite Yamaha’s difficulties, Quartararo consistently showed his ability to extract the maximum from the machinery, often fighting above the bike’s expected level with impressive qualifying performances and strong race results.

His move to Honda represents a fresh challenge for the former world champion, who will be tasked with helping the Japanese manufacturer rediscover its winning form.

Honda have endured a difficult period since Marc Márquez’s departure, with the RC213V becoming one of the most challenging bikes on the grid. However, the arrival of Quartararo signals Honda’s ambition to build around a proven championship-winning rider.

David Alonso completes Honda’s future plans

Alongside Quartararo, Honda have also confirmed the signing of Moto3 world champion David Alonso as part of their long-term MotoGP project.

The Colombian-Spanish rider has been regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the paddock after dominating the 2024 Moto3 season, where he secured the championship with a record-breaking campaign.

Alonso’s move represents Honda’s commitment to investing in the next generation of talent while pairing youth with Quartararo’s experience.

The 2027 regulations provide a reset point for manufacturers, and Honda will be hoping that combining a future star with a proven MotoGP champion can help accelerate their return to the front.

A new era for Honda

The arrival of Quartararo and Alonso highlights Honda’s determination to compete at the highest level once again.
