With the points in the world championship now narrowed down to a single race win, all eyes turn to the Singapore Grand Prix to see whether the fight will close up once again.

After the Dutch Grand Prix, many thought that Oscar Piastri had one hand on the title, with the Australian securing a win as Lando Norris suffered a heartbreaking DNF. Yet, over the past two races, Norris has clawed back points on his McLaren teammate.

A controversial team swap in Monza and an uncharacteristic crash from Piastri in Baku means the gap has been cut back down to 25 points. And with Norris finishing ahead of his teammate by nearly 42 seconds at Marina Bay last year, he looks primed to continue chipping away at Piastri’s lead.

However, his tone after practice told a different story and did not indicate confidence looking ahead to the weekend: “A difficult day for me," Norris admitted, "not feeling too great with the car.

“Missing all of the feelings I had here last year so plenty of things to work on. Just a bad day.”

Meanwhile, his championship rival ended up topping the chaotic practice session with a 1:30.714.

Norris was quick to acknowledge Piastri's capabilities, stating: “Oscar’s quick so, I got nothing to complain about.”

Norris’ struggles in practice was compounded by a crash with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the pitlane; the Monegasque driver has now been handed a €10,000 fine for the incident.

He will be looking to shake off the uncomfortable feelings in today's qualifying and bounce back for tomorrow's qualifying session.
