Laurin Heinrich is set to make his debut in the Porsche 963 in its final race of the season at the World Endurance Championship's (WEC's) 8 Hours of Bahrain.
He will take over what was Michael Christensen's spot in that car, with Mathieu Jaminet having already driven instead of the Dane for the last round at Fuji. Christensen is now looking increasingly unlikely to be retained by Porsche next year, as they will no longer race in the WEC.
Heinrich gets his first opportunity in the 963 in what could be its last appearance in the WEC, but certainly its last factory appearance.
Heinrich has shown his worth in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship over the last couple of seasons, driving for AO Racing in the GTD PRO category. The German won the title last year, coming in fifth this year but finishing third in the endurance cup in both years.
This will be the 24 year olds first venture into any type of prototype race car, so he has a lot to learn. However, this could be considered a test a potential IMSA drive in the GTP class next season.
The 8 Hours of Bahrain will take place on Saturday the 8th of November, when you can tune into our website where we will have live coverage of all eight hours.
