After a post-race review, Cadillac’s Sergio Pérez has been handed a 10-second time penalty at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. The ruling comes from the driver being out of position at the restart after the red flag.

A document released by the FIA stated the following:

“The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 11 (Sergio Pérez), team representative and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video and in-car video evidence. Video evidence showed clearly that the front right wheel of Car 11 was outside the starting box. The standard penalty is applied.”

The verdict brings heartbreak to Cadillac, as Pérez finished the race in tenth, securing the American outfit’s first point in Formula One. After already serving a drive-through penalty for a starting position infraction early, the team would have been more than satisfied with Pérez still managing a top 10 finish.

Where one team searching for their first points of the season suffered, another scored. As a result of the penalty, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso has been promoted to 10th place.

The Silverstone-based team has had a beyond difficult season, facing constant technical and developmental issues throughout. Although one of the Aston drivers, Lance Stroll, retired from the race after crashing into the barriers, Alonso remained in contention and ultimately was rewarded with a point.

As a result, Cadillac’s quest for its first points in F1 will continue after a disappointing ruling from the stewards.
