After an hour of running under the safety car, the rain has been ruled too heavy and the red flag called on the LoneStar Le Mans.
A wet track pre-race prompted race control to start the LoneStar Le Mans behind the safety car. As the rain intensity increased, a long wait for the green flag was inevitable.
After one of the six hours in the race, the red flag was called as the track was declared too wet, however an error in race control may also have been a reason to call the red flag.
Despite the safety car, the race has not gone without drama. The No.87 Akkodis ASP Team Lexus came into the pits with a head light failure. The car was released from the pits before the problem was fixed, leading to a strong discussion between the officials and Akkodis pit crew.
Having to go into the garage the next lap, the No.87 lost five laps.
More catastrophically, the No.20 BMW had to retire early with an electric problem. René Rast was asked to jump out the car to avoid getting electrocuted. Elsewhere on the Hypercar grid, Julien Andlauer had a spin in the No.5 works Porsche.
Only a hand full of laps before the red flag, there was safety car confusion as they tried to switch the vehicle leading the field around. The grid order got shuffled, leaving the No.36 Alpine leading and the No.95 LMGT3 McLaren in third place overall.
During the red flag, the order will be re-instated to its initial arrangement.
The race will restart at 14:40 local time (19:40 GMT).
