Endurance racing legend, Sébastien Buemi, will miss the coming round of the WEC (World Endurance Championship) to race in Formula E instead.
The upcoming Berlin E-Prix poses a clash with the Six Hours of São Paulo, meaning Buemi will miss his first WEC race since 2012.
Since 2012, Buemi has won four Drivers' Championships in the WEC and has won the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans four times as well. All of this success in the endurance world has come with the Toyota team, who dominated the late LMP1 era.
In the electric world, Buemi has won one drivers title in 2016 with the Renault team. Currently, Buemi is sat 12th in the drivers standings with Envision Racing, contrary to eighth place in the WEC championship.
Although Buemi's position in the WEC is higher at the moment, his championship chances are unlikely due to the Ferrari 499P's immense pace. He is equally unlikely to win the Formula E championship, however he is understood to have more leeway to miss WEC races in his contracts.
Buemi has won the Berlin E-Prix twice in the past (2016 and 2017) and will strive to do it for a third time. Although his machinery is not the best this year, Buemi has every chance of winning with the high level of unpredictability and close competition in Formula E.
