Sérgio Sette Câmara will step in with the Nissan Formula E team for the Berlin E-Prix in July, the
team has confirmed, as regular driver Norman Nato has commitments in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The São Paulo round of WEC clashes with the Berlin round of Formula E.
Nato races a Cadillac in the Hypercar class for Team Jota in WEC, and according to his contract, those commitments take precedence over Formula E. Nato has completed every WEC race so far this season, and along with teammates Alex Lynn and Will Stevens, has finished in the top 10 in every outing. Meanwhile, Nato has struggled in Formula E, only amassing 19 points whilst teammate Oliver Rowland has brought home 171.

Nissan have drafted in experienced Formula E driver Sérgio Sette Câmara in Nato’s place. Sette Câmara is Nissan’s reserve and simulator driver. The Brazillian has 66 Formula E races under his belt across five seasons. He most recently competed for the ERT Formula E Team (now Cupra Kiro) but lost his seat at the end of Season 10 in 2024.
Sette Câmara spent much of his Formula E career in subpar equipment, only managing to amass 43 points across his five seasons in the sport. This opportunity with Nissan will be his first entry in a truly competitive car. Nissan currently sit second in the teams’ standings, just one point behind Porsche at the top of the table.
Oliver Rowland will most likely have sealed the title by the time we get to London, and thus he is not the biggest concern Nissan have. Berlin is a doubleheader, and the penultimate weekend of the season. The next time the teams will go out after this will be the season finale weekend in London. Thus, Berlin will set the tone for the teams’ championship battle going to the English capital.

There will be significant pressure on Sette Câmara to perform, given the intense championship battle his team is embroiled in. Norman Nato has struggled to get to grips with the car this year, and Oliver Rowland has scored the vast majority of points for the team, but nevertheless, the expectation will be a points-scoring finish at the very minimum.
On this opportunity, Sette Câmara stated: “I’m excited to race for the Nissan Formula E Team in Berlin. It’s a good opportunity for me to step into one of the leading cars in the championship, something I haven’t experienced before in this series, and I feel ready to give my all."
Meanwhile, Nissan Team Principal Tommaso Volpe said: “It’s a shame Norman can’t be with us in Berlin, but we’re delighted to have Sérgio stepping in. Sérgio’s extensive experience in Formula E and his time with the team this season make him the best-placed driver to step in and take on this challenge."
