Ericsson to continue in No.28 Andretti for 2027 IndyCar season

Marcus Ericsson has been announced to return to the No.28 Andretti Global for 2027 after signing a new deal with the Indianapolis-based outfit.

It comes after a much-improved season for Ericsson, which has seen the Swede earn five top 10 finishes, most notably with a second-place finish at Gateway and a maiden IndyCar pole on the Streets of Arlington. Ericsson lies 10th in the standings and is currently on-course for his best season with the team since he joined Andretti ahead of the 2024 season.

“I’m really excited about the contract extension," Ericsson said. "I think it’s been a good year for us. We’ve really been turning things around after last year, and we’ve put in a lot of hard work, and that’s really been paying off. The results haven’t always gone our way this year, but I feel like we’ve been competitive and in the mix on every type of track. That makes me excited for next year and to be able to build on the momentum we’ve created this year. So, I’m super excited about that.

"I’m very thankful to Jill [Gregory, President of Andretti Global], Dan [Towriss, CEO], Cassidy [Towriss] and everyone else on the team for the trust they’ve put in me and for believing in me. Now we’re going to finish this season strong, put our heads down and come back even stronger next year.”

Ericsson came into the season under-pressure after two underwhelming seasons with Andretti, especially after finishing just 20th in the championship in his second season with the team. This was only amplified after Andretti entered a technical partnership with Dale Coyne Racing to accommodate their Indy NXT champion Dennis Hauger into a full-time IndyCar seat, much like they did with Kyle Kirkwood and AJ Foyt Racing in 2022.

However, an underwhelming rookie campaign for Hauger and a much-improved season for Ericsson means that Andretti have kept faith in the 35-year-old as he embarks on a fourth IndyCar season with the team.

“One of our priorities has been building consistency across our INDYCAR program, and bringing Marcus back is an important part of that," said Jill Gregory. "He’s shown exactly what he’s capable of this season through the speed and results he’s delivered. Keeping our driver lineup together next season allows us to build on the chemistry and performance we’ve established as a team.”

Ericsson will continue alongside Kyle Kirkwood and Will Power heading into 2027, as Andretti become the third confirmed team to retain their 2026 line-up following Team Penske and Ed Carpenter Racing.

It also ends the discussion over one of the most coveted seats remaining in the driver market, as the dominoes continue to fall for 2027. Chip Ganassi Racing, AJ Foyt Racing, Dale Coyne Racing, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, Juncos Hollinger Racing and Meyer Shank Racing are all yet still to confirm their line-ups, with a very busy silly season still unfolding.

However, one of the least silly aspects of silly season has been formalised in Ericsson's return to Andretti as he looks towards a first victory with the organisation and continue the positive momentum built this season.
