This weekend’s Supercars Adelaide Grand Final kicked into gear with the cars on track for the first time during Practice 1. The 30-minute session saw drivers making their early laps count, before last-minute improvements across the grid meant that only two of the final four championship contenders finished the session inside the top 10.

As it Happened
The Triple Eight duo of Broc Feeny and Will Brown led the way out of the pit lane, biting back at Cam Waters’ early attempt at topping the timesheets with his lap time of 1:21.296.
However, as fast laps came pumping in, David Reynolds shot into the top spot with a 1:19.975, with both Waters and Penrite teammates Matt Payne and Kai Allen making improvements toward the top.
Reynolds’ teammate Anton De Pasquale also put in strong times throughout the first part of practice, closing out the session with the fourth fastest time.
Brodie Kostecki in the red and white-liveried Mustang suffered a brush with the concrete barriers, forcing the 28-year-old to return to the pit lane whilst he sat in fifth, but allowing him a second go out on track with fresh tyres.
Reynolds remained the man to beat as the session ticked over its halfway point, followed by De Pasquale, Waters, and Payne. However, for Allen and fellow title contender Chaz Mostert, their best laps were only fast enough for 14th and 15th respectively. Meanwhile, Brown and Feeney remained glued together in 8th and 9th, separated by a mere 0.0083 seconds.
With kerb strikes galore being recorded in the concrete jungle, Feeney missed out on an opportunity to make an impression on the frontrunners after mounting the kerb at the exit of Turn 7.
Reynolds held strong for Team 18 with five minutes remaining and most of the grid peeling into the pit lane to prepare for their final practice runs.
Final improvements came in the final minute of the session, with Waters toppling Reynolds from the top spot by a mere 0.007 seconds with a time of 1:19.576 and just 40 seconds left on the clock.
Two of the championship’s final four managed to claw their way up the order in the closing stages of Practice 1. Chaz Mostert improved up to sixth whilst Brown ended up directly behind his rival in seventh.
Reynolds and Kostecki joined Waters in the top three, whilst Feeney was pushed outside the top 10, separated from his teammate by 0.17s. Meanwhile, Allen found himself over 8-tenths off the pace, finishing the session down in 18th.
