Having already been teased, the news has broken that Formula E star, Nick Cassidy, will be joining Peugeot in 2026 to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The move was teased at the start of August with a mock Instagram direct message about Cassidy's availability this September to race in the Lone Star Le Mans race at Circuit of the Americas (COTA).
The messages went on to suggest chatting about: "2025/2026 @FIAWEC plans."
2026 will be Cassidy's first attempt in a WEC prototype, however in 2022 he competed with Ferrari and AF Corse in the GTE-AM class. The Kiwi finished 24th overall in the GTE drivers standings and 11th in the GTE-AM standings, with a best in-class result of fourth.
Cassidy will be returning at a higher level this time round, with more experience under his belt. While he is yet to win a Formula E Drivers Championship, he helped Jaguar TCS Racing win the Teams' Championship in 2024.
Across his five years in the electric championship, Cassidy picked up 11 wins and 25 podiums, constantly fighting at the front.
It is unclear which car Peugeot's new driver will race in, nor have Peugeot announced who will be replaced by the Kiwi. Rumours have emerged over the last week that he may be replacing Stoffel Vandoorne, who might be moving to the new Genesis team next year.
Cassidy's future in Formula E is currently unconfirmed, however it is suspected he will be switching to Maserati. This is due to Peugeot and Maserati both being a part of the Stellantis group.
If the Kiwi continues to race in the all electric series, he will be joined by other stars such as Vandoorne, Nyck de Vries and Sébastien Buemi in doing the Formula E and WEC double.
Competing in two opposite series will craft Cassidy into a better driver as he broadens his range of skills from electric single seaters to sports cars and multi class racing.
