Formula E will return to a much-loved venue in order to kick off its pivotal pre-season testing for the upcoming Season 13, the first season which see the new fourth generation of Formula E cars (Gen4) take to the track.
Drivers and teams will undergo a lengthy testing regime in the lead up to the season, in five days of on-track running between 16 and 20 November, 2026, helping them get up to speed with the new generation of Formula E cars.
As forJarama, the venue for testing next season, the Spanish racetrack has undergone a massive transition as a Formula E venue, from a back-up during the Valencia floods in 2024 to a fan-favourite after an exciting maiden Madrid E-Prix in 2026.
There remains plenty of optimism for the venue on the outskirts of Spain's capital city as it prepares to host pre-season testing, and potentially a race late in the season in 2027. The Gen4 cars have a capability of reaching upto 208 mph (335 km/h) in top speeds, and have breached 200 mph down the main straight in Jarama in the hands of James Rossiter in an unofficial test session.
“We are delighted that the iconic Circuito del Madrid Jarama - RACE will play host to such a significant milestone in Formula E history. Madrid has already proven to be an incredible venue for our championship, and there is no better place to debut the new GEN4 car ahead of the new season than at a venue that blends racing heritage with a forward-thinking vision," said Formula E's co-founder and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo on the milestone announcement.
"This is more than just a test; it is the first time the world will see all our drivers, teams and manufacturers showcase their new GEN4 machinery - the most powerful and technologically advanced electric race car ever built ahead of its racing debut.
"The start of the GEN4 era is a game-changer for performance, innovation and sustainability, and we can’t wait to see our teams and drivers push its limits on this historic track,” Longo continued, enthusiastically awaiting the upcoming Formula E season.
With several major dignitaries, including King Felipe VI in attendance during the Madrid E-Prix, and strengthened transit connectivty to the venue, the Circuito del Jarama delivered a star-studded debut for the all-electric championship.
“Formula E choosing Circuito de Madrid Jarama - RACE once again to host its pre-season testing and launch this new era for the championship demonstrates the trust that organisers, drivers and teams continue to place in both RACE and its Circuit — a venue with extensive experience, strong organisational capabilities and infrastructure fully prepared to host world-class international events,” Ignacio Fernández, Director of Circuito de Madrid Jarama - RACE, spoke on the announcement.
Head of Formula E Pablo Martino dubbed the venue to be "outstanding", as he praised the challenge the circuit offered to drivers and teams alike. “Building upon the success of the first-ever Madrid E-Prix earlier this year, Circuito de Madrid Jarama - RACE has proven itself to be an outstanding venue for Formula E, combining a challenging track layout with great facilities.
"As the championship enters the GEN4 era, these pre-season tests will represent a crucial opportunity for teams, manufacturers and drivers to understand the new car and prepare for the season ahead. We are proud to return to Madrid for another landmark moment in Formula E history as the revolutionary GEN4 car makes its collective track debut,” Martino concluded.
Jarama also proved to be an able foil to Formula E's crop of rookies earlier this year, hosting the annual one-day Rookie Test on the Sunday after the event. Pre-season testing, though, will be a different ball game, with teams and drivers looking to maximise every bit of track time to get up to speed with their new machines.
With two new teams, several new faces on the 2027 grid and a speedy machine in the form of the Gen4 car, it's set to be a new dawn in Formula E's history, and pre-season testing will give fans a chance to witness the new car in full flesh, out on the track.
In addition, Formula E's full calendar for Season 13 will be announced on 23 June, 2026, after the all-electric championship submits its calendar to the FIA for approval.
