Nyck de Vries wins thrilling Monaco E-Prix as Dan Ticktum penalised

Ahead of Round 9 Dan Ticktum claimed his maiden pole position of Season 12, beating Nyck de Vries in the final. But it was the Mahindra driver who was dominant in Monaco, winning his first victory since Season 8.

Mitch Evans fought from fifth to finish in second position and take the lead of the championship. Pepe Martí completed the podium, earning his best race result ever.


AS IT HAPPENED- Round 9 in Monaco


Dan Ticktum maintained the lead if the race into Lap 1, and the drivers all remained in similar positions to where they began the race. Mitch Evans reported potential damage, stating that he "has a puncture". Whilst it was unclear what had happened, commentators speculated that the New Zealand driver had been tapped from behind by Pascal Wehrlein.


There were several battles for position throughout the field. On Lap 3, Nico Müller and António Félix da Costa battled whilst just one lap later there was a fight between Joel Eriksson and Müller.


Lap 4 also saw a Safety Car called for a collision between Jake Dennis and Nick Cassidy at the Nouvelle Chicane. The incident arose as Cassidy allegedly moved under breaking, with the Andretti of Dennis being squeezed into the wall, having been unsighted by the New Zealand driver.


The Safety Car returned to the Pit Lane on Lap 5 whilst Norman Nato was given a drive through penalty due to a tyre pressure infringement.


Lap 9 saw a slight contact between Jean-Éric Vergne and Müller. Just two laps later, Cassidy recieved a 10-second penalty for his collision with Dennos.


A yellow flag was shown on Lap 13 and the Porsche duo emerged with damage. Replays showed that into the Swimming Pool Chicane Müller had hit his teammate, Pascal Wehrlein, from behind.


One lap later, Oliver Rowland reported a puncture.


Pit Boost returned for Round 9 and many drivers dove into the pits to get the 10% increase in energy. da Costa took over the lead of the race on Lap 16, but the de facto leader was Nyck de Vries, who was the leader of the drivers who had taken Pit Poost.


On Lap 20, there was a three-way battle for the lead between da Costa, de Vries and Mitch Evans before the Mahindra of de Vries emerged in first.


Ticktum charged forwards, battling with da Costa for third position having taken Attack Mode.


Lap 27 saw a Full Course Yellow thrown after Jaguar's da Costa hit the wall approaching the Nouvelle Chicane. He lost his rear right tyre and was forced to retire from the race.


On the final lap, the Green Flag was shown. Nyck de Vries crossed the line in first, claiming Mahindra Racing's first victory of Season 12. Mitch Evans finished in second and Dan Ticktum crossed the line in third however a post-race penalty he was demoted to 12th place.


As a result of the penalty, Pepe Martí was promoted to fourth, earning his maiden Formula E podium.
