The No.16 Scherer Sport PHX Porsche that was due to be driven by Patric Niederhauser, Laurens Vanthoor, Ricardo Feller and Patrick Pilet has been pulled out of the N24 race due to a massive crash earlier, at the hands of Vanthoor.
The Belgian took too much kerb on the run into Schwedenkreuz and got flung across the track, clipping the grass and spinning at high speed. The car hit the barrier and bounced back heavily, getting small air time.
The Scherer Sport crew will now shift focus to their No.1 Audi, the reigning champion from last year, driven by Christopher Haase, Luca Ludwig and Markus Winkelhock.
A revised Friday schedule has been issued after the crash stopped the original top qualifying session, with that session restarting at 4pm local time, before Qualifying 3 at 4:40pm, with a shortened length of 65 minutes.
That looks to be a brutal crash!
Sometimes a fatal crash happens by a perfect sequence of events. Sometimes the likelihood of everything lining up perfectly is highly unlikely.
Then there are crashes that should have been fatal but were not, because the holes in the Swiss Cheese didn't line up.
