Marc Marquez. One of the Greatest riders in MotoGP history, who beat iconic MotoGP heroes such as: Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso.

However, eventually - all heroes meet their end, and some meet their end in different ways.

Valentino Rossi, whose career spanned 26 years, was able to walk away from MotoGP fairly unscathed by any injury, which is an incredible achievement in itself.

However, with the news that Marc Marquez will be undergoing a fourth surgery on his arm and shoulder, questions begin to arise, that this is yet another season disrupted by his injuries, so how much longer is he willing to put his body on the line?

How it all began:

The 2020 Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez: Marquez broke his arm after a major fall at turn 4 of the Jerez track. As a result, Marquez would heartbreakingly miss the entire 2020 season, and the first few races of the 2021 season as well

Marquez, after returning, showed the odd glimpse of glory, but nothing at all close in comparison to his 2019 dominance, where he won 12 of the 19 races, and appeared on the podium 18 out of 19 times as well. He also became the first man in MotoGP history to manage to score over 400 points in a World Championship.

Marquez had also won the 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons back to back, and appeared completely unstoppable.

However, since returning, he has only shown these random little glimmers of hope, and that isn’t enough to stabilise your position on the MotoGP grid.

So… should Marc Marquez retire?

In my opinion, it would be devastating to see Marquez retire from the sport, as he is only 29 years old and is already one of the sport's greatest, with 85 total career victories, his last win coming in the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Misano.

However, with Marquez’ arm injuries, and him hitting his head badly at the Indonesian Grand Prix as well… should Marquez just call it a day and move on, before he gets seriously injured?

I think he still has more in the tank, but by the time he’s fully recovered, I think Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia will be the new face of the sport, if they aren’t perceived to be already.

However, I would love to see Marquez make a full recovery, and return to the front of the field, where he deserves to be.

I got the privilege of watching Marquez race, at the 2011 British Grand Prix, when he was in Moto2 - and seeing how his career has gone was always a beautiful thing, but now - the man is really risking his health, to try and return to the front, and he will only get slower with age - something that is common for a lot of riders, for example: Valentino Rossi.

So from everyone at Divebomb Motorsport, we would like to wish Marc Marquez a full recovery, and hope that he can return to the sport as fast as he is on track!
