On Thursday, the Spanish veteran provided insights into both his team's car development and the psychological demands of championship contention amidst the title fight between McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, following a massive swing of points in the Australian's favour after Norris' retirement in Zandvoort.

Alonso began by expressing his strong belief in the foundational work being done at Aston Martin to "trust the tools we have in the factory and bring things to the track that actually deliver – we didn’t have that in 2023 and 2024".

His comments highlight a renewed confidence within the team regarding their technical capabilities.

His words also underscore the immense optimism surrounding the arrival of Adrian Newey, a designer synonymous with championship-winning machinery. Alonso clearly sees this as a pivotal moment for Aston Martin’s long-term ambitions.

Shifting his focus to his team's 2025 championship fight itself, Alonso articulated a clear strategy for success, emphasising the importance of internal focus over external pressures: "There is nothing you can do [in a title fight] about the external factors just deliver the job every weekend."

He continued by acknowledging the strong performances of his rivals further up in the standings, Piastri and Norris, who are contending for the 2025 Drivers' title: "They are both doing incredibly well. [Norris] was unlucky in Zandvoort but many races to go."

Alonso then distilled his championship philosophy into a direct, actionable principle: "You just focus on winning every weekend and if you do that you will be champion."

This mantra perfectly encapsulates the relentless pursuit of excellence required in F1. It’s a call to arms for consistent performance, week in and week out, rather than getting bogged down by the broader championship standings too early.

Alonso's comprehensive comments paint a picture of a driver who is deeply invested in his team's technical progress and possesses a clear, unwavering mental strategy for tackling a title challenge.

His focus on both internal development and a disciplined, race-by-race approach highlights the multifaceted nature of competing for a world championship. With the season progressing, Alonso's leadership and experience will be crucial in Aston Martin's pursuit of glory.
