António Félix da Costa has officially joined Jaguar ahead of the upcoming Formula E season, partnering long-timer Mitch Evans, who will now take part in his tenth season with the Big Cat in 2026. Da Costa will be racing in Jaguar colours for the first time in his Formula E career.

The Portuguese driver parted ways with Porsche in September, culminating a three-year stint with the German manufacturer. The relationship with former employers Porsche slowly became a strained one, that stretched all the way back to mid-2024.

Major reasons for da Costa's departure included Porsche's private test with Nico Müller, a move that threatened to put the Season 6 champion's future with the team in doubt. Another unspecified incident in the lead up to Season 11's opening weekend in São Paulo was never resolved, according to sources.

There was also the small matter of the late Free Practice 1 incident in Berlin this July, one that left many bemused, and only added to growing tensions between Porsche and da Costa.

Nevertheless, da Costa has now moved ship to the team's closest rivals in the constructors' standings in Season 11, Jaguar. The Big Cat have experienced plenty of overhaul, with the departures of former team principal James Barclay, engineering guru Phil Charles and two-time championship contender Nick Cassidy.

Incoming are two major championship-winning figures themselves, in former Mercedes and McLaren Formula E team principal Ian James, who led Mercedes to two drivers and constructors' championships in 2021 and 2022 with Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne respectively.

As for da Costa, he still holds the record for the largest winning margin for a Formula E champion, having taken the top spoils by a whopping 77 points back in a curtailed Season 6 in 2019-20, a record briefly threatened by Nissan's Oliver Rowland in the most recent Formula E campaign.

However, da Costa hasn't been able to recapture similar form ever since; his Porsche stint included five race wins across three seasons, while he took only a win apiece in his final two seasons as a DS Techeetah Formula E driver in 2021 and 2022.

Nevertheless, he is still a strong force to be reckoned with when on song. Da Costa won four of the last seven races in 2024 to round out Season 10, following his Misano disqualification, while his third position in the standings helped Porsche to their maiden Formula E title in Season 12.

As for Evans, Season 12 marked his lowest scoring campaign since new teammate da Costa's championship winning Season 6, when the New Zealander scored only 71 points. Evans accumulated 74 points on his way to 13th in the standings in 2025, scoring two race victories, albeit sandwiched by a torrid run of form in between.

The Jaguar man has raced with the team since its inception in Season 3, and has more or less remained at the forefront of championship battles. Evans came the closest to winning the title in Season 11, missing out by just six points to eventual winner Pascal Wehrlein.

There's no doubt bringing in two figures who have championships under their belt will certainly help a recovering Jaguar team in the long run. The Kidlington outfit took their maiden constructors' title in Season 11, but started off 2025 on a tough run of form.

Although, their season slowly turned around, peaking as Evans and Cassidy combined to take the final four wins in Season 12, lifting the team up from a lowly eighth at one point, to second in the standings.
