Rodin Motorsport's Martinius Stenshorne has been handed a time penalty for a failure to serve his mandatory pit stop during the course of Formula 2's Feature Race in Austria.

The Norwegian driver finished sixth on the road, climbing his way up from 21st on the grid. Key to this drive was a pit stop made on Lap 27, when the virtual safety car was instated to clear up the stricken PREMA Racing car of Mari Boya, with his car on fire.

However, as per article 38.9 b of the sporting regulations, a driver isn't allowed to make their mandatory pit stop under Virtual Safety Car (VSC) conditions, unless they were already in the pit lane or the pit entry when the VSC was deployed.

In Stenshorne's case, the stewards reviewed GPS evidence and the driver's and team's statement, while noting that the Rodin driver had committed to the pit entry, and was close to the dotted line denoting the pit entry on the track when the VSC was called out.

Since he hadn't yet made it to the pits before the VSC was called out, Stenshorne had failed to serve his mandatory pit stop in the F2 Feature Race, and received a stop and go penalty.

However, as it had been awarded after the race was completed, this was converted into a 30-second time penalty, stripping Stenshorne of his sixth-position spot on the road.

The result demotes the Norwegian driver from sixth to 19th, while it promotes teammate Alex Dunne, pole-sitter Noel León, Trident's Laurens van Hoepen, Invicta's Joshua Dürksen and DAMS' Roman Bilinski up into the points-paying positions.
