Oliver Rowland
The reigning Formula E champion endured a mixed weekend in Monaco. After failing to score points in Round 9, he bounced back to claim victory in Round 10. Throughout the season, Oliver Rowland has admitted that qualifying has not been his strongest area, and Monaco initially appeared no different.
However, Rowland showed significantly improved pace, with the entire field looking incredibly close throughout qualifying. Despite the tight competition, he managed to fight his way through the field.
During both races, Rowland demonstrated exactly why he is a champion — remaining calm under pressure and using his experience to his advantage. His victory was particularly impressive, finishing over a second ahead of Felipe Drugovich and showcasing exceptional race craft. Following the Monaco E-Prix, Rowland now sits second in the Drivers’ Championship standings and will undoubtedly look to use his championship experience in pursuit of another title.
Felipe Drugovich
Andretti’s rookie had arguably the best race of his Formula E career in Monaco, scoring a fourth place finish and a second position. Felipe Drugovich secured the impressive results by driving tactically and managing to avoid the chaos, such as the crash between Dan Ticktum and António Félix da Costa in Round 9.
His incredible performance in both races shows that the Brazilian driver is improving on his confidence in the GEN3 Evo car and could also show that Formula Two experience can help in the all-electric series. Drugovich was one of several ex-F2 drivers who showed confidence around the streets of the principality.
Mitch Evans
Mitch Evans is one of the strongest reforming drivers in Monaco, having taken four podiums in the last six seasons. In the post-race press conference he expressed his enjoyment of the Monaco track and shared that he may have been overly cautious during Round 9.
Evans’ second place finish at Round 9 helped him to take the lead of the drivers championship. In his final season with Jaguar Racing, surely he will be more eager than ever to win a title. Recently, Evans has experienced so much heartbreak but he has not allowed for that to dampen his fighting spirit.
Monaco has shown that Evans is ready to be champion and that he has the determination to win the title as well.
Nyck de Vries
For the first time in over four years, Nyck de Vries and Mahindra Racing won a Formula E race. Mahindra Racing were virtually untouchable on the Saturday, with de Vries topping all but one session. The Dutch driver was able to carefully fight his way to the front and avoid the chaos to win. His performance was incredible all weekend.
Despite the fact that he did not finish as high in the points in Round 10, he was still able to move up seven places and claim valuable points.
Cupra Kiro
Whilst Cupra Kiro’s drivers did have mixed results with both suffering a non-finish, overall their Monaco weekend was one to remember. Not only did Pepe Martí score his maiden podium, Ticktum also showed immense pace during qualifying.
The team’s rookie was able to claim third position after a 33-second time penalty for his teammate Ticktum. Whilst one driver’s loss was another’s gain and the circumstances surrounding the podium could be deemed controversial. It was an incredible drive from Martí that would have scored significant points for the team even without the post-race promotion.
Dan Ticktum was one of the strongest drivers throughout the whole weekend even though he failed to score points in either race. His two pole positions secured him a very valuable six points combined that allowed him to move up to 14th in the standings. Whilst that does not sound massively impressive, when fans consider that prior to this weekend, Ticktum had only scored points on two occasions and had suffered with four non-finishes.
In qualifying for Round 10, Ticktum beat da Costa by 0.676 seconds which is an incredible feat around the tight streets of Monaco.
Overall, Monaco was a very mixed weekend for many of the drivers- some had some of their best ever Formula E performances whilst others were left looking forward to Sanya with many improvements to be made.
