Written by Silvia Cojocaru, Edited by Vyas Ponnuri

Although the championship fight is over, the newest world champion’s recovery period from injury has opened up opportunities for the rest of the grid. After some surprises on track, here are the 2025 winners & losers after the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Winner: Álex Marquéz

After finally solidifying his second position in the Championship on Saturday, Marquéz's weekend was completed by a dominant win in the feature race.

The Spaniard took the lead at the start of the race, being especially aggressive after Francesco Bagnaia's strong start. After making his move on the Italian on Lap 2, nothing could've threatened his victory.

Marquéz's result also brought Gresini the title of the best independent team of 2025.

Despite his disappointing DNF result in the Sprint, Mir's luck came around on Sunday.

His weekend was completed by a feature race podium, one that he inherited after Bagnaia's unfortunate technical issue caused him to retire from the race.

Winner: Pedro Acosta

Still chasing his first race win, Pedro Acosta managed another amazing performance at Sepang, this time finishing second.

He battled against Bagnaia for most of the race, making a decisive move on Lap 13. The Italian did not get the chance to fight back, as his pace started to drop significantly, leaving Acosta with a comfortable cruise to second place.

Loser: Francesco Bagnaia

Following a commendable performance in the Sprint, Bagnaia failed to recover more points on Sunday.

Although he was fighting with Acosta for second place, having great chances at a podium finish, a technical issue later in the race ended the Italian's hopes of moving to third overall in the championship.

Bagnaia's 2025 season has been one of constant up-and-downs and this time his race was compromised through no fault of his own.

Loser: Marco Bezzecchi

Although he managed to maintain his position in the championship, his weekend was rather disappointing.

After failing to make it into Q2, he lined up 14th on the grid. The sprint came with promising results, with Bezzecchi recovering to sixth, but the race proved much tougher, only managed to climb back to 11th.

We will hopefully see Bezzecchi return to his impressive form that he showed throughout this season, but this race was one to forget for the Italian.

Loser: Fermín Aldeguer

Despite winning the title of Rookie of the Year this season, and coming off the highs of a sprint win in Mandalika two rounds earlier, Aldeguer's Sepang weekend was nothing short of underwhelming.

The Spaniard received a penalty due to a tyre pressure infringement after the Sprint race, which caused him to lose his sprint podium, and instead be demoted to seventh.

However, the bigger disappointment came on Sunday, when he unfortunately crashed out of the race on Lap 17.

Remember to tune in on the 9th of November at 14.00 BST for the Portugal Grand Prix to see how the action on track unfolds!
